More joys of the Internet

M didn’t get up until 7:45 this morning, so I guess yesterday’s 5:45 rising was an anomaly. I’m coming up to a month’s experimenting with the early rising, and am continuing to enjoy the extra time in the early mornings. I have gotten into a bit of a routine now and it’s good how much I can actually get done before it’s time to go to work.

It’s very easy to get sucked into the blogosphere vortex, though. This morning for instance, I started reading a few of the blogs I’ve been following via Bloglines, following links, and before I knew it, the sun had risen.

I had all these windows open, and was flicking back and forth between them, just like channel surfing. I was marvelling at the huge amounts of good discussion and information that you can find out there, and chuckling at some of the sheer insanity as well. Take this blog, for instance (warning: the site has a lot of profanity on it so don’t click on the link if you might be offended), the I hate Horses blog. This blogger hates horses and people who like them. Yep, that’s the whole point of the blog.

And then there’s the person posting mugshots on Flickr. This guy collects old mugshots – yes, those pictures the police take of you when you get arrested – and has created a Flickr account to post them. I wonder what the ethics and legality of buying and selling mugshots are – he says he’s picked them up over the years from estate sales and eBay! (Which only goes to prove that there’s a buyer for just about anything!)

Bloglines is a wonder. I have so many feeds at the moment it can be hard to keep up, and I must confess I don’t even try to read everything I am subscribed to, everyday. That’s another thing we didn’t have pre-Internet – this information glut!

And I thought I was a prodiguous net-surfer. You beat me hands down. 🙂

Spam is easily beat: just use Thunderbird and watch it all filtered away.

Information glut is less so: when there’s a link, I would click. Hahaha….damn this reflex action.

LOL Mooiness 🙂

Yep, I use Thunderbird too. Prefer it to Outlook any day. I also think my spam is minimal cos I try not to publish my email addresses anywhere (put one up here and on flickr just as an experiment, so far so good).

I really relate to the click reflex – this week I nearly had a brain haemorrhage trying to show a complete Internet/computer newbie how to surf the web. For some reason he decided he had to click everything twice, and some sites would open up twice as a result. And he was so trigger happy I nearly screamed STOP!, but not before he had like 20 windows clogging up the screen…

I’m not sure why you posted your firefox tabs but I suppose it was to point out how many things you were checking. If you think thats unusual I’d just like to point out that you musn’t have seen amount of windows/tabs open for the average guy surfing web porn 😛

Porn? What’s that??? 😀

Nice to see you finally posting here, M! I promise the comments feature won’t replace conversation between us 😉
