I have a day off today. I’d originally planned to have a long weekend and take Monday off, and I’d hoped to spend the whole day doing something decadent, like having a second breakfast at 10:30am and playing games and playing with Baubles the Cat and reading and cooking… Instead, I went to work yesterday and I’ve taken today, Tuesday, off, and I’m going to be standing out in the middle of a large field in the middle of the day, protesting. And it’s going to be hot, too.
Today’s protest is supposed to be a nationwide ‘event’, and as I write, it’s already happening Over East (Definition of Over East). The Melbourne Age is already reporting that traffic is at a standstill in central Melbourne. Perth’s protest is happening at 12 noon.
I’m concerned about the proposed changes to the Industrial Relations Act. (I’m also concerned about the proposed Anti-Terrorism laws, but that’s another protest.) Prime Minister, are you going to dismiss concerned citizens as just a mob, again?
I do have permission to be there, by the way. Most of my workmates are going, as is The Boss. Just look for the group of rowdy librarians.
Newsflash at the ABC site: Thousands protest against IR laws. (9:36am WST)

Hope you guys wore lotsa sun-protection and hats. Am in the office now and I can feel the heat.
I think I avoided heatstroke by drinking lots of water and sitting/standing under my placard. And yes I had lots of SPF 30 on. Man it was hot!
