Where did the time go this morning? Via Ceejbot, I found the International Dialects of English Archive, and have been listening to the voices and accents of people from all over the world, recorded reading a passage in English. I’ve listened to the accents of people from China, South Africa, Finland, Ghana, and Madagascar. Pity they haven’t recorded any Singaporean or Malaysian accents, although these days I think they are easy enough to come across by listening to podcasts!

Singaporean lah, yeah loh, so many at the podcasts ah! I’ve been staying in Singapore for 10 years and somehow I miss all the lohs and lahs…
I know what you mean, Hoi, there’s something about all those lahs… 🙂 I’m glad to be able to speak Manglish (Malaysian English) with my family.
Sometimes I slip and insert the odd lah into a sentence when talking with M – usually when I am really trying to make a point. I even found myself doing that with a colleague who is also originally from Malaysia, the other day 🙂
