M doesn’t blog. I don’t think he’s particularly interested in blogging, although I’m sure he does read blogs, given that he spends a lot of time online.
Rebecca Blood’s just posted an interview with Jason Kottke, during which she asked him about how he and his wife interact with each other’s blogs.
Do either of you ever forget to read the other’s site? Any repercussions?
I believe a skimming problem currently exists. At dinner, one of us will invariably ask the other, “Did you see such and such a link on my site today?” with a uncomfortable look and a stammered “Which one was that?” as a response. Which is fine…it provides for several opportunities for familial ribbing. On the other hand, if you can’t interest your own spouse in what you’re writing, maybe you’re doing something wrong.
M does read this blog, although I don’t think he necessarily reads it every day. Some days, when I ask if he saw what I wrote that morning, and did he see the comments, he’ll admit he hasn’t. I like to think what I write here doesn’t completely bore M, although I don’t know if he would be inclined to read this blog if it wasn’t my blog, as I don’t tend to write about the eclectic mix of things he’s interested in (computer games among them). Sometimes I think he even learns little things about me reading it!
Blog aside, we do do a lot of our daily communicating using the net in one way or another. Emails, and IM. I still have that email M wrote me way back in 1997 which started our relationship (before that we were Just Friends).
Sometimes I wonder if I give away too much. It’s a fine line, I think. This is why I didn’t write about the reading material in our toilet, but I’m wondering why I was coy about that, when I happily write about being pen-obsessed or share the contents of my personal library (you can find out a lot about a person by looking at their bookshelves) or blithely navel gaze from time to time. And you just found out that M and I were using email way back in 1997… (I note that the SMH has been doing yet another lot of articles on couples using the Net. The tone of these sorts of articles always mildly irritates me – trend? It’s been going on for YEARS, get with the programme, people! Sheesh.)
I don’t write much about my job here because it would be too tempting to talk about things I shouldn’t, and we all know what a disaster that would be… I could write about Librarianship more but I think this blog is more for my extra-curricular personal interests, and I’m happy to have lint to do the librariany thing on.

I try not to think about who reads my blog or not. I know my Director reads it, only because she mentioned seeing such and such on it now and then. Interestingly, if she wants to comment, she e-mails me; she does not post it to the blog, which I find curious but try not to think about it too much. My better half probably does not read mine, but my bet is since it is mostly for librarianship, it may not interest her, which is fine by me. Now my personal blog, that may be something else entirely That’s where I put the extra-curriculars as you call it. The toilet reading post, if I ever do one, would go over there. Actually, the better half does not use the net as much as I do. The little one on the other hand, pretty savvy on it. As always, best and keep on blogging.
Hi Angel, I don’t think my Uber Boss reads this blog. The Deputy Uber Boss has – and his only comment was “Interesting, CW!” Hmmm…
It does pay to remember that anyone could stumble on your blog at any time. I think it was Meg Hourihan who said that she always reminds herself that her grandmother might read her blog (mine doesn’t read English, but it still works for me 😉 )
Because my other half (M) does read this blog I do usually check with him before I post something that’s about him! Of course, I would check even if he didn’t read it.
Nice to hear from you – I always enjoy your blog and admire your wide range of reading!
Many of my family members and colleagues are in that weird grey area where I can be fairly sure that they know about my blog, but I can’t assume that they pay it a lot of attention.
I think a few of my colleagues know this blog exists, but I don’t think they read it regularly. And of my family only a couple of my sisters keep an eye on my goings-on here, I think. I wonder what my Mum would think of the fact that I spend such a significant amount of time blogging 🙂
