There must be simply hundreds of library folks in Perth at the moment! HUNDREDS. This fact was brought home to me last night while M and I were having a drink and dinner with Tom and Sarah at the Brass Monkey in Northbridge. While sitting there I saw at least three librarians I know – and who knows who else was lurking in the shadows? Of course we’ll have mere hundreds at our conference, compared to the 17,000 in New Orleans this year for the American Library Association’s conference.
Having dinner with Sarah and Tom was good, because I’m now a bit more excited about the conference. It still doesn’t seem quite real to me – perhaps because I’m not going anywhere special for it – but I suspect I’ll be quite in the mood (so to speak) after I go to the first-timers’ breakfast tomorrow morning. And it was good to catch up with Tom, and to finally meet Sarah, after weeks of email and blogging interaction! (I’m getting used to these sorts of first-online-then-facetoface meetings, I think.)
