Netless

We are now unconnected to the network. Rang the phone company to get the phone connected in the new place and now that that’s been done the net connection seems to have dropped out in the old house. Our ISP informs us it will take between three to ten days to get our new connection. THREE TO TEN DAYS! WITHOUT THE NET! WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITHOUT THE NET??

Okay, panic attack over. Hopefully it doesn’t take ten days…

As it happens we are going to be away on the weekend, visiting the small country town of Tambellup, so even if we had access we wouldn’t be using it much. Why are we going to Tambellup, you ask? Well, we’re going as Curtin Volunteers, as part of the annual John Curtin Weekend:

The 82nd Tambellup Show! A small community with a population of 700 is closing the main street on Saturday for a day of fun and community spirit. CV! will be sending 10 members of Cirque de Curt and Balloonatics, Curtin’s own Circus and balloon sculpting groups to help with the festival atmosphere and excitement. We love volunteers with circus skills, face painting, balloon sculpturing and any other unusual skills. Other tasks: help supervise the tractor pull and cleaning up after the show. The evening is a family-style wind down with a band and the Table Tennis Challenge. Following a community BBQ the volunteers will travel back home.

ALLOCATED TO: Cirque de Curt, Balloonatics
DATE & LEAVING TIME: 14th Oct, 6:00am
NUMBER VOLUNTEERS: 10
DISTANCE: 328kms
ACCOMMODATION: Staying together in a shearers house on a farm
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Entertainment gear, money for one lunch, sleeping bag and blankets, pillows and sheets, warm clothes

M and MR will be juggling and unicycling, and I’ll be the gofer/groupie 🙂 (I might also have to do balloon wranglingsculpting; this should be interesting as I’m not overly fond of popping balloons or the smell of rubber. We’ll see.)

We tried to go last year, but it was a bit of a debacle. Hopefully we get there and back in one piece this time!

Regular blogging will resume once connection difficulties are resolved. (Lunchbreak over.)

Three days = 1 at work, 2 at Tambellup = OK.

Ten days = 3 days, plus mornings of extra sleep-ins, consoling Baubles and box unpacking, with blogging at work. Should still be OK. It’s just those long, lonely nights…

Srangely enough, when we were at the Eumundi markets in Qld, we met Simon the amazing unicyclist who performed at Reg’s celebration. He was balloon sculpting! He makes money that way, but seemed to pop a lot of balloons in the process. I feel better about my own feeble attempts now.

Penny, no heeby-jeebies but only because it came back on just in time 😉
