Tumblelogging

Have you heard of a tumblelog before?

I started noticing that everytime I clicked on a URL in one of Steven Cohen’s Twitters, it took me to a site called I Tumbld… . Of course, it always pays to look at the fine print when you’re not sure what you’re looking at, and I noticed a little statement at the bottom of the page: Powered by Tumblr.

The Tumblr page informs the world that “Tumblelogs are like blogs with less fuss. Tumblr is your friendly and free tool for creating tumblelogs.” Their FAQ goes on to say that “…If blogs are journals, tumblelogs are scrapbooks” and helpfully provides a link to a definition of tumblelogs on Wikipedia. According to Techcrunch, Tumblr itself has only been around for about a month – but the definition on Wikipedia states that the term tumblelog itself was actually coined in 2005! I wonder why I haven’t come across it before…

Of course I’ve had to check Tumblr out. My tumblelog is Wah! The word wah is Malay for wow or gosh, I guess, an exclamation, usually expressing surprise or admiration. As in “Wah, what a cute puppy!”

(Thanks, Steven, for the pointer!)
