Librarians Meetup

It was a beautiful day to sit around drinking coffee (or chai latte, or iced chocolate, or banana smoothies…). And, most wonderfully, there were NINE of us altogether! It was great to see everyone – especially as I was expecting a maximum of five of us…

Kathryn was there, as was Hoi, and Matthias, Rachel, Sue, Emma, Sputty and Maeve (M came down too, a bit later). We commiserated with those who have to work with difficult IT departments, laughed at lolcats and lolcode (there’s free wireless at the Xwray!), talked tech and generally enjoyed catching up. I especially enjoyed meeting Maeve and Rachel, both of whose blogs I read but neither of whom I’d met before yesterday. (Although, Rachel, I can’t seem to find your blog – please email me if you’d like me to link to you 😉 )

And, after talking about it at the last Perth bloggers’ meetup, we’ve now created a page for the West Australian chapter of the Library Society of the World. Does this make us the first international branch bunch?

When shall we get together again? Kathryn’s already suggested meeting to talk about David Weinberger‘s Everything is Miscellaneous. I’m in!

I was surprised to see so many turn up too, but really pleased. It was a nice, casual afternoon that reminded me again why I became a librarian and why I live in Freo.

I’m pretty much a failure as a blogger myself, but am trying my hardest to get our libraries’ in gear with current tech and future tech planning. I would definately be interested in subsequent meetups.

I enjoyed it too. Great meeting so many like-minded people. I must spend more time in Freo and get to know it better too.

It was a pleasure to meet you Maeve and I’m looking forward to more chats!
