Looooooooong weekend

No, I haven’t been off reading the latest Harry Potter. In fact I haven’t even got a copy and am not going to rush off to get myself a copy anytime soon. (I just don’t seem to care enough. I will read it – I’ve read all the other books – but only because I read lots, not because any of the books in the series have ever excited me that much.)

I’ve been enjoying a long weekend which began on Friday, and have been reading (PD James) and playing (Civilization 4 Beyond the Sword – expansion was released this week) and relaxing with the puppy and M. Made a roast for lunch. Now I’m updating WoW. I’m going to enjoy the rest of this long weekend – I go back to work Tuesday.

Nice to have long weekends regardless of HP or not. I’m borrowing my sister’s copy πŸ˜‰

Yes it has been, Penny πŸ™‚ I wonder if I will just borrow a copy, or wait until the book is available in paperback and then buy it from my favourite book shop.

Sounds great, exactly like a weekend should be. I like P D James too – which ones are you reading? Preference for Dalgleish or Cordelia Gray mysteries?

Sheena, at the moment I’m reading Shroud for a nightingale (trying to read all my PD Jameses in order). I last read Cordelia Gray forever ago, and have to confess I barely remember them – will read them and let you know. What is your preference?

Another confession: I always thought I preferred Wexford to Dalgleish, but I think I am changing my assessment now – I am actually really enjoying Ms James’s language.

Well, there are only 2 Cordelia Gray mysteries as far as I know – An Unsuitable Job for a Woman and The Skull Beneath the Skin. I prefer Dalgleish I think, partly because he has more chance to develop as a character, and I also like his detectives, especially Kate. I used to prefer Wexford too, but I rediscover PD James about 2 years ago and like you really enjoy her language. I used to like Elizabeth George but stopped reading after A Place of Hiding, they were just much too sad.

Sheena, re Elizabeth George I also found the angsty relationship stuff between Lynley and Helen and Simon and Deborah too painful after a while. I couldn’t bear it!
