Today, I:
- wrenched my left ankle
- scalded my left hand with hot tea
- splashed tea dregs all over myself while trying to wash a mouldy cup.
I blame it on feeling a little stressed and too much rushing around, too much to do over the last few days. I get into the I-must-do-six-things-at-once frame of mind and it can be hard to stop even when I no longer need to function in that mode. I always injure myself if I forget to switch that mode off and let myself settle into it – I get disconnected and careless.
Happily, my ankle wrench wasn’t a bad one, nor did I scald myself badly (holding my hand under cold running water for some minutes probably helped). And splashing myself with mouldy dregs? The only thing that was mildly injured was my pride – I was in a public kitchen in MPOW and several students saw the librarian pour stuff all over herself – and it did have a good effect, as it shocked me out of my automatic pilot unconsciousness.

Oh, ow, how awful! Give yourself a treat and a break tonight. I do exactly the same thing when I’m stressed – my fine motor co-ordination disintegrates. Last year I broke my right wrist falling down my own front stairs in a similar mode. I hope you manage to relax a bit before you get to that point. (Are things still full speed ahead at work?)
Bummer!
If it’s any consolation I managed to humiliate myself getting off my bike yesterday to cross over the pedestrian crossing in peak hour traffic. A very undignified dismount was seen by all! Barked my shin on the pedals too ๐
Yikes, sorry to be part of the stress. Enjoy the ‘new year’ and your RDO :o))
Thanks Sheena – lovely to see you here again! ๐ Yes, things are still extremely busy at work, but I will just have to remember to take time out from time to time during the day. Hope your wrist is all healed now?
Penny it’s always worse when you humiliate yourself in front of lots of perfect strangers, isn’t it?
Kalgrl you weren’t part of the stress – I enjoyed our chats and only wish I had had more time to spend ๐
