Learning

Tony’s statement that he tries to learn a new thing every year really has me thinking.

What a fine idea!

What could I learn every year?

What am I interested in learning every year?

The usual thing I always want to learn comes to mind: languages (more Dutch, more German, classical Chinese). All seem like a lot of effort at the moment, though. Also very much well within my comfort zone.

I’m not interested in learning about technology for its own sake.

Nor crafts. But then I’ve never been interested in handcrafts.

Drawing?

Watercolour painting?

Photography?

Calligraphy?

Learning better writing skills? (Ongoing, just needs practise, surely?)

All the above fall within the comfort zone again, I think.

Self mastery?

This last sounds awfully new age-y…

At the moment I do focus on how I do things (especially my interactions with colleagues) and how I can do better.

Am I thinking too much?

What else should I be DOING?

My days are very full, and lately weekends have been really about rest and recharging. What else can I add to my days that will be interesting and yet not too draining? I think about pushing myself out of my comfort zone, but if it’s too challenging I’m not going to be likely to stick with it.
