Out of sorts

I’m feeling out of sorts at the moment, for two reasons:

One, I’m sort of between books. I’m used to always reading something and when I can’t settle on the next book to read after I finish the last one, I feel a bit discombobulated. Any recommendations?

Two, I think I’m coming down with a cold. I think I’ve just come across too many people with colds, lately, and I’ve finally succumbed. The fact that I’ve had a rather busy week at work doesn’t help (we’re kicking off a major project to replace our library system!). Hopefully an early night will help…

Lisa Kleypas Wallflower series. Witty, history, great characters, fun reads, amazing sex. Don’t be out off by fact they’re seemingly historical romance.

I’ve just finished “My Name Was Judas” by CK Stead. It is a story told from the point of view of Judas, who was one of Jesus’ childhood friends and, as we all know, was cursed forever as an evil betrayer. Judas is telling his story as an old man, while living under another name in another land. He’s a wonderful character – intelligent, philosophical, sceptical, a believer in reason who didn’t buy into the miracles/son of God thing. I loved it!

I think I’ve been one of the cold people. My favourite cold/ill/sick reads are often books I’ve read before. The Blue Sword and The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley are particular favourites, and I often go back to them when I’m not feeling well. Adventure fantasy, well written with great female protagonists. My most recent read has been City of Mirrors by Justin Cronin. It’s the third book of a viral ‘vampire’ apocalypse trilogy. I had it on preorder for months.

I’m really enjoying a Nebula Prize shortlist book, Fran Wilde’s Updraft, at the moment. (Though I think it may be the start of a series and I seem to remember that, like me, you’d prefer to read the whole series and not have to wait?)

I know the out of sorts feeling…especially when struggling to not get sick!! And agree about that in between books discombobulation!
I have read all the Elena Ferrante book (well the 5) and am reading a much lighter book on Naples now- See Naples and die- by Penelope Green.
Also dipping in to Truman Capote short stories- I have two lots from the library just now.
take care
