It’s winter in Perth at the moment.
Winter in Perth is:
Rain. We don’t have snow here, it rains.
Wind
Cold
Clear blue skies
Green (because of all the rain)
Chunky soups for dinner
Warm socks
Scarves
Chihuahua snuggling
The weather always used to be the most local thing you could talk about it. Who else would know how hot/cold/wet/dry it was where you were, except for your neighbours?
Now with the Internet it’s possible to find out what the current temperature and weather conditions are like in most places. We share pictures of the floods, the trees that got blown down, the barbecues, the lazy days at the beach. All my Northern Hemisphere friends are talking about the heat (or unseasonal cold) where they are. My Australian friends are commiserating over winter storms or floods or cold. The world seems large and yet very small, all at the same time.
