I like

I like drawing people, and drawing crowds of people.

This morning I felt quite stuck and lacking in inspiration. I sat and stared at my sketchbook for a while and decided to use my usual technique of literally just putting my pencil to paper and drawing a line. The line became a person’s head and then a person and before I knew it I was trying to depict a scene from memory, of the Fremantle markets yesterday afternoon. We dropped in yesterday, thinking we would have lunch there, but it was so crowded I just wanted to get out of there. (I am not a fan of being in large crowds.)

Hopefully my crowd scenes are getting slightly more sophisticated each time I draw one. I find I’m enjoying adding shading to the figures – their clothing, and shadows. It’s quite different just making things up like this, as opposed to trying to draw a human figure from a live model. Both are fun, though.

This drawing captures the vibrancy of people at a market really well. Are we going to see drawings of dogs?

Well, you aren’t allowed to have dogs at the train station…
