Anything new

A few days ago, Kathryn asked: “During the next week, I want to know, even just once, what did you do that is new?”

I don’t actually think I can answer this question. Since this pandemic started, there have been a lot of new things in my life.

It’s a boring list, really, of things many others would have in common:

  • attending and running meetings and events and gatherings online, via Zoom or similar platforms
  • responding to government decrees restricting where we can go and what we can do
  • changing my expectations, of being able – or rather not able – to see family, friends, or colleagues, due to aforementioned government restrictions
  • wearing fabric face masks from time to time
  • washing my hands with soap, for twenty seconds, every time I wash them

None of this is new any longer, of course. It’s also pretty tedious, really.

Drawing is the one thing I’ve started this year that wasn’t specifically pandemic-related, but I’ve been drawing since 31 January this year, so it’s not really new either. I suppose the new things this week are the new drawings I’ve worked on. For today’s drawing I wanted to try to fill my page. I think I mostly succeeded.
