Old hands

A bit of an odd day with COVID-19 restrictions announced in Perth by the Premier. Here we go again. Hopefully we’re all kind of used to this now and we get through this okay. I can’t help but be worried, though – all this talk about the super-virulent Delta variant spreading around the country, sigh.

Hands

I drew these hands this afternoon, based on this photo.

Something’s happening with my drawing: I spent three hours drawing at art class this morning, and then I got home and drew these hands. I think I’m really just enjoying drawing and want to draw whenever I can and it’s not a thing anymore. This is significant for me because this time last year I wouldn’t even have thought about drawing, never mind actually sitting down and drawing. So it’s been a good change. Nice to develop a new habit.

And the other thing is that I’m really happy to be developing my drawing skills. Drawing from life or from photos is new for me; cartooning is something I used to do as a child, and I’m enjoying revisiting it, but drawing like this – like this drawing of hands – is new for me. Hopefully I can keep improving and developing my skills here.

I love this one. Hands are so important to me because I learn new things through doing, because I get happy through tactile crafts like pottery, and because lesbian #NSFW.
If you start selling pieces let me know – or creative barter?

Hi Ruth, if this drawing wasn’t in my sketchbook I’d rip it out and send it to you! I’ll see about doing another one at some point, on different paper, for you 🙂
