It seems like every #blogjune I hit a point where I run out of steam. It usually happens around now in the cycle of things, hence the lack of posts from me for the last few days.
It’s not as if there is nothing to blog about, but this year has been a little strange for me in that there is a lot I am not sure I am comfortable to put in writing in this space. I say strange because this hasn’t particularly been an issue for me before – it’s not the need to keep some things to myself and not blog them publicly (I’ve never blogged about everything!) – but the strangeness for me comes from the fact that not being comfortable to blog about certain personal things is causing a bit of a roadblock for me in blogging about everything else. Ah well.
Despite all this, it’s been an interesting month. I’ve enjoyed reading about snail’s upcoming trip, Andrew’s local community theatre production, Graeme’s holidays, and Kathryn’s days. (not linking to Kathryn’s blog due to some current problems which hopefully get resolved soon.) Getting reacquainted with Genevieve’s writing.
And in other news, I’m confounded by this announcement from IFLA. Just needed to add my two cents’ worth: I think it’s a poor decision, and the announcement reads as particularly tone deaf. No doubt there will be a lot of discussion within the profession in the coming days. Will it lead to reform and change? Or will we subside and forget about it and continue on, being “nice” as we seem to like to be? I’m pondering what I as an individual librarian ought to do next.

The IFLA decision is bordering on awful and at the very least poor. Even I, as a straight, middle-aged white guy, am not comfortable even transiting through Dubai on the way to other places. I am not married to my partner and it was illegal, though “not enforced”, for us to share a room in Dubai. I gather this changed in January 2022 when it was “decriminalised”.
