Since 2020, almost all my reading has been of the light, “escapist” variety. I haven’t been doing much professional reading at all, and I don’t read the news all that closely either.
One of my favourite genres is murder mysteries. I especially like novels where the location of the story is well described and evoked, you learn about its history and culture, and you start to feel like you’re getting to know the place.
I’m reading The Mystery of the Lost CĂ©zanne by M. L. Longworth at the moment, the fifth novel in a series set in Aix-en-Provence, France. I’m enjoying it. I like the writing and the main characters. They enjoy good food, wine, and one of the main characters also likes cigars. I’m not likely to ever smoke a cigar, but I’ve learned, through reading these novels, that some cigars can taste chocolatey. Who says novels aren’t educational?
