Early morning thoughts (take 2)

The time has really flown by this morning! I have been working on another one of my experiments and listening to Penguin Cafe Orchestra. This experiment is a short one – I am attending a ‘leadership’ course at work at the moment, and we were given some homework after the session. It was relatively easy homework: we were asked to reflect on what we had learned and to pick something we wanted to try to change or achieve in the coming week. I am very glad I have been doing my early rising experiment, because I would previously have been quite hard pressed to find the time to reflect (quite sad really, not to have the time to reflect!). I wrote that

It is easy for me to “drown” in operational stuff and to lose sight of the bigger goal. I realise I need time to process what has happened, and to consider what I have done, the consequences of this, and what I need to do next. I’d like to change this by making more time for myself to reflect on things. I have already begun making this time, by getting up early every morning and using the quiet time for writing and thinking. The result has already been interesting in that I feel less rushed and clearer about what I need to do.

It’s nice to have a feel-good start to the morning! 🙂

Today will be a busy one. First thing on the agenda is a meeting, followed by a day-long visit from a major database vendor. I’m going to make sure I leave early so I can do something other than sit around and listen to someone talking!
