Writing this on my new HP Tablet PC. Picked it up yesterday, and didn’t manage to post this morning as I spent too much time playing on it. It’s a pretty cool device, although I’m still unsure of all its capabilities. I’m already wishing you could dock it (to recharge the battery) and use the keyboard, though, and the docking doohickey* looks like I could damage it quite easily. My PDA, a Compaq iPaq H3800, has a docking doohickey that lookeds very similar, and I wrecked a few of the connector ‘teeth’ within a couple of months of getting the PDA. Luckily the PDA was still under varranty – not too sure about this Tablet though.
It is not brand new but appears to be in pretty good nick. Its previous user was an academic, although I am not sure how long he had it. Even if I hadn’t been told that someone else used this Tablet before me, and I hadn’t noticed the stickers with the academic’s name and address all over the back, I would have realised anyway because it smells faintly like cigarette smoke! UGH!!! I noticed the smell this morning at my desk: “Where is that used ashtray smell coming from? *sniff sniff* AIYA it is the Tablet!!!!!” I’ll have to make sure I burn lots of nag champa near it and use lots of Tinderbox Sandalwood Rub On whenever I use it, to dispel the burnt tobacco smell.
*What is the technical term for the bit that connects the device to the syncing device??

Hi hi, I’ve been reading your blog and jus wanted to say hi.
I am a library students + library stuff at Perth. It’s good finally to see more librarian blogs at WA like yours.
Cheers.
Oh i know what you mean about that burnt tobacco smell. I recently got a library book that smelt like that. It was horrible. I ended up returning it and borrowing another copy from a different library. I just couldn’t bear it.
Hello Hi Hoi Hi, and thanks for leaving a comment! 🙂 Looking forward to reading more of your blog also!
Miss L, that’s horrible! I could never kiss a smoker…
the term for the docking doohickey: “dock”. 😛 And no I’m not being sarcastic. Or if it’s a loose wire thingy, some ppl call it a “dongle”.
I call it a ‘cradle’, but yeah, ‘docking doohickey’, like Mooiness said.
Thanks Mooiness and Cherry 🙂 I’ll call it a docking cradle. Sounds a bit Science Fictiony 🙂
