Lately I’ve been marvelling at the fact that I’m into my fourth month, and I’m still maintaining this blog. I haven’t gone anywhere or done anything particularly interesting, and I regularly forget to bring M’s camera with me when I do anything that might present photo and blogging opportunities (or I leave the camera in the car when I do). I suppose it does help to have a few aims in mind, even if they are a bit vague.
I seem to remember that when I started I was planning to experiment with various blogging tools, like site counters (done), tags (ongoing – see also extisp.icio.us), and seeing how I would publicise this blog (also ongoing). I have done all that, and there’s probably a lot more I could be doing – like tweaking the appearance of this blog some more, for a start.
Writing practice was/is another reason for this blog. Writing has also been a good way of occupying myself in the pre-dawn hours, and the daily writing practice has been good for work as well. Where I used to have the worst writer’s block, sometimes over writing an email (!), this seems to have disappeared, and when any sort of writing anxiety arises I just go and write (or do) something else for a while.
I don’t really know where this blog is going to go. Every guide to blogging or list of dos and don’ts will say you need to have a purpose for your blog, but beyond Ruminating About Various Experiments, I haven’t had any other aims or goals. Does it matter?

I don’t think you need a reason. At its most basic, a blog is the written form of the stream of consciousness that are your thoughts. Woah … did I just string those words together? 😛
It’s a like a painter putting him/herself on canvas. It’s an extension of you. 🙂
Yes, it’s true, people always say a blog needs a ‘purpose’, but i reckon if the blogger is interesting and articulate, s/he could write just about anything! Well done on keeping it going. (Wish i could say i’m doing as well – writing for pleasure is hard to come by these days in my neck of the blogosphere.)
I don’t think it matters. And anyway I think your blog is a fine read. Even when you start with “Can’t think of what to say…” or “I don’t have anything to say today…”, you still keep writing anyway. I reckon: keep going, wherever it is you’re going, with your ruminations.
Thanks for the votes of confidence, all 🙂
