This year has turned out well, but not the way I was expecting it to. Actually, when I think about it, I don’t know if I had any particular plans or expectations for 2005, really. Are you supposed to admit that you started out with no goals in mind?
Our wedding in March was The Big Event, and I think beyond that I hadn’t really thought too much about it. Oh, don’t get me wrong, at the beginning of the year I was still quite committed to my job, it’s just that the wedding, and all the organising associated with weddings, was far more prominent in my radar. (And to think we didn’t have a traditional white wedding – we concentrated on having a big party for family and friends instead. I shudder to think how much more complicated it would have been if we had wanted all the frills.)
Workwise, I’m very glad 2005 has turned out the way it has. I’m glad I worked on the projects I did (RSS and blogs), and it’s now really, really gratifying to see the results – very tangible ones: RSS feeds for additions to the library collection, and a library news blog. And lest I give the impression it was a solo effort, it definitely wasn’t – I couldn’t have done it without the support of my colleagues, SGS (who always has all the brilliant ideas and enthusiasm), CM (who does all the technical stuff and puts up with me whinging, complaining and insisting that the blogging software we are using, B2Evolution, must have feature X, otherwise it sucks!), M (who actually did all the investigation of all the software and helped CM in nutting out the technical details), and of course, The Boss, whose constant ability to see the Big Blue Sky meant that he was always pushing us (me) to do more. And that’s not even taking into account my other colleagues, GH, DB, JW, KB and ML who have had to put up with me and my fervour (akin to that of a recent convert to a cult: “RSS is The Answer, and we get to it by The Blog. Wikiwikiwiki.”).
2006 is looking interesting too. I’ll be going on a workfunded trip to Malaysia in March, I have papers to write (yes, I’ve still got that task to do, but hopefully I now have some practical experience to draw on), and we’re working on the P word for the library.

oops ..
I hope you have an enjoyable trip to Malaysia in March. Why don’t you use it as a vacation too? If you’re looking for something similar to Tanjung Rhu Resort, there’s another place on the east coast at Rantau Abang. But nothing beats visiting the islands! M may like the crafts and souvenirs you can get on the east coast. A “wau bulan” to hang on the wall would be great!
How I wish I was in the tropics.
The months sure have passed by very quickly. I think we started our blogs at around the same time!
The time has passed very quickly, hasn’t it?
That’s a good idea, using the trip for a holiday as well. We’ve been idly discussing it, because the trip will be happening around the time of the first anniversary of our marriage! Will have to keep Rantau Abang in mind, thanks for the suggestion!
