Australia Day

Happy Australia Day!

It’s quite cool in Perth this public holiday morning, around 16 degrees Celsius (60 Fahrenheit). At 6am,the sky has just cleared and is now a lovely blue – when I woke up an hour ago it was quite grey, with lots of cloud. While much of the rest of the country swelters, the forecast for Perth says we’ll be having a maximum temperature of only around 27 degrees (80 F)! Quite a contrast from both Melbourne and Adelaide, which are expecting temperatures of around 38 degrees (100 F).

I heard loud laughing and yelling outdoors a few minutes ago. I looked out the window and saw a couple of youngish guys walking up the road carrying on. One of them was walking in the middle of the road, strumming an air guitar and waving at the cars as they drove past him. I guess some people have started their celebrations early.

ack! It is hot already, and it’s only 10am. As you can imagine I am plugging away at selection criteria – a reason to stay indoors.
Happy Australia Day and don’t forget to wave a lambchop at someone!

intint: because when we are holding onto a lambchop we can’t possibly be bashing someone up. 😉

That ad was funny.

What ad are you referring to, guys? *puzzled*

mooiness 27 January 2006

cw: you didn’t see it? it caused a brief outcry but it was still aired. Basically it played on recent events and how eating lamb chops could have prevented all of it. 🙂

Here’s the link to news article about it:

Australia Day is that something like Independence Day? Sorry for being ignorant.

CW 29 January 2006

Mooiness, thanks for the link. No, I didn’t see it, I hardly watch telly…

Hi Israd, Australia Day is our national day, I guess. It marks the day Captain Arthur Phillip, as the captain of the First Fleet, established a colony at Sydney Cove. It’s a public holiday marked with lots of picnics and barbecues and fireworks displays. Wikipedia has a neat overview.
