As in rest and recuperation. That’s what I’ve been doing for the last 4 days, in case you’ve been wondering. That sore throat that I woke up with on Wednesday, well, by the end of that day I was so flat and tired when I got home that all I did was go straight to bed. And woke up on Thursday with no voice and a head that felt like someone had blown it up, using hot air from an industrial-strength oven, then taken a sledge hammer to pop it. I stayed in bed and slept most of Thursday, occasionally blowing my nose, and barely woke up even when M got home from work.
Friday was somewhat better, in that I even sat up and checked my email for three seconds in the morning and rang work to say I wasn’t going to be in (on Thursday M told them I wasn’t coming in), but that was too much exertion, so I had to spend the rest of the day lying around. I couldn’t seem to sleep, though, possibly because I’d ODed on it the day before. And by the time I’d read three books, I needed something different to do, so I watched day-time tv. I think I saw a re-run of Spicks and Specks (great show which I never ever remember to watch) and numerous children’s shows like Postman Pat (I have never met a postie with a cat!) and Bananas in Pyjamas (I’m sorry but I find them slightly creepy; I think it’s their beady, never-closing eyes). There’s something to be said for tv when you’re completely lacking in get-up-and-go and your brain processes are not quite functional – you can just lie there and let it happen.
The weekend wasn’t much better in terms of activity, although I felt much better than I had on Thursday. I’m quite surprised at the number of books I managed to read. Granted, most were re-reads, but still eight books!
Dawn by Octavia Butler (Rest in Peace!)
The Chinese Maze Murders by Robert Van Gulik
S is for Silence by Sue Grafton
Earth Abides by George R Stewart
Thorns by Robert Silverberg
Bridget Jones’s Diary by Helen Fielding (first read – really enjoyed this one! M got the DVD out for me the same evening; what a let-down after the book)
Hills End by Ivan Southall
Ash Road by Ivan Southall
I’ll be back on work today although I’m not quite feeling 100% yet. This could have something to do with the fact that I’ve only had three meals in the last four days. I just haven’t felt like eating anything, and the heat hasn’t helped much either.
So, if you’re still waiting to hear from me via email, my sincere apologies at the delay. I’ve got all these notes and things I want to ask people in response to their thoughtful comments and answers to my survey. I’ll get on to this over the next couple of days. Apart from catching up on two days’ worth of email, I’ve also got to start getting myself organised for my impending trip to Kuala Lumpur (it’s next week!). I suppose it’s just as well I got sick when I did. Getting sick this week would have been very inconvenient.

So glad you are feeling better. I was feeling a bit lonely with you off-blog, and intint fatigued as well. *sighs*
Impressed by the number of books you got through. I haven’t even read that many in six months – pathetic, i know. 🙁
Thanks Cherry 🙂 I don’t know how I managed to read that many books in between sleeping!
