Crickets*

Another thing that happened on Monday, which I forgot to mention, was that I posted my first ever message to our West Australian library workers’ email list. Apart from the fact that I am a hopeless contributor when it comes to email lists, this was not a particularly memorable event, and nor is the question I posted to the list. Bear with me.

I’d been browsing through the Industrial Librarian’s blog (after looking at the latest Carnival of the Infosciences offerings) and I noticed that he was looking for library technicians’ blogs. I only know of one, and I started wondering if there are others out there. So I thought I’d ask – I wrote to the list asking if there are, telling them why I was asking, and posting a link to the blog post.

The silence has been deafening. Does this mean there are no library technicians blogging in Western Australia (who subscribe to the list)? I’m probably just hanging out in the wrong circles; I’ll keep my eyes open!

One librarian did write back, but he was commenting on something else entirely. And he doesn’t blog, himself – when I asked if he did, he said he wasn’t that technologically savvy. Is blogging really seen as something only techie types would do? I’ve never thought so, but then again I’ve never ever been freaked out by the computer, I like playing with it, and have been accused of being a nerd more than once. But while I can programme the VCR, I couldn’t write a line of Perl to save my life, and my mathematical skills are embarrassingly underdeveloped…

Oh, and yesterday’s comments also gave me lots to think about! (Might write a more considered response after I’ve had time to think some more.)
