Weather for wusses

This morning I was quite awake when the alarm went off but I couldn’t bring myself to stick even a toe out from under the covers. Wondering what the temperature was, I lay there under the doona, blanket and Baubles the Cat until 6am before I decided to stop being a wuss. Canberrans would definitely think it wussy of me, seeing that their winter temperatures routinely drop below zero. (According to the weather bureau the mean daily minimum July temperature in Canberra is −0.2 °C!)

Obviously the mind is the biggest obstacle to doing anything, because yesterday I got up as usual with no faffing about. We had our coldest morning on record yesterday but I was oblivious to this fact until I heard the report on the radio, and by then I had been up for three hours.

It’s been very dry this winter so far. I remember writing and whingeing about rain this time last year, but so far there hasn’t been much rain at all this season. We usually get most of our annual rainfall during winter. It’s not a good situation, particularly for farmers. My cousin, whose family farms up at Three Springs, says that they are still waiting for rain so they can start seeding. Not good.

Thinking about the weather makes me worry about the [earth’s] future.

I do wonder what things will be like in 100 years’ time.

On a more pleasant note, it rained quite heavily yesterday. Just hope it rained in the right areas as well…
