After complaining about wanting a soirée yesterday, I actually attended one! A group of Perth bloggers meets monthly at a local watering hole, and last night I convinced M that he would come along with me to meet all these people. It was a very interesting evening, and so refreshing to be with a group of people who don’t disdain you for blogging.
It always surprises me that it’s possible to meet someone whom you’ve only ‘met’ online before, and still manage to have a perfectly good, even enjoyable conversation.
As it happens, last night was the night of The Big Fight, so the pub was packed to the rafters with people who were there to watch it on Foxtel. The meet was upstairs away from most of the crowd, though, so it was actually possible to talk to people.
These photos were taken by Skribe (one half of One Dog Said To The Other; or should that be one third? Nice to meet you, Toxic Purity and JOOB!). We also chatted with Brett (of Not The West fame), Ron Larson, Richard Giles, Dee, and Jon Yau.
My only regret is not talking to everyone who was there last night. So we only said hello to Kay and Clay, and not even that to three other people came along (I know Rachel was there too). I blame it on an attack of shyness midway through the night the sloping floor that discouraged me from leaving my seat. (No I was not inebriated: the slightly sloping floor is a feature of this venue – some Perth people may recognise the venue from this description – or from the photos!)
Apparently last night was the biggest gathering for a while (I think there were thirteen people there?). I’m glad I was part of it.

You took photos! Yay!
I think once you do a few of these, your shyness should dissapate. 🙂
I’m so jealous. Now I want a soiree!
Oh what fun! I wish i could’ve been there. I can’t work out the venue… i’ve been a non-Perthite for too long, methinks!
I think it’s the Brass Monkey… but the furniture doesn’t look right…
Mooiness, I didn’t take these photos – piked out and didn’t bring the camera at the last minute. But maybe for the next one. You going to come along? I think it’s on the 21st June, so plenty of time to reorganise your busy schedule (you social butterfly you!).
Iris it was great fun! 🙂
Cherry it was at the Brass! 🙂 As for the furniture there were lots of couches on the balcony, very nice and comfy!
Thanks for the links to the other blogs. I didn’t know who was who =).

Last night was great, and I’d go as far as saying it was the biggest meetup in Perth so far. The beauty is that it’s a mostly new crowd, and after a few meetups we’ll really start to get a sense of each other.
Last night was great, and I’m really looking forward to the next one. Thanks to the two of you for coming.
Rich
No worries Skribe 🙂
Richard, it was good to finally meet you. Looking forward to the next meet 🙂
Hi CW,
I’m glad you came along to meet up. I thought I was the only one who gets wonky on the sloping verandah. I nearly careened off into William Street the first meet up I attended there. Aren’t all bloggers a bit shy? 🙂 Hope to see you again,
Dee
Hi Dee, imagine that sloping verandah if you’ve had one too many!
I’m glad I went 🙂 I didn’t go to the first one because I was shy (I had to work that evening but could have still turned up, albeit a bit late…)
Will try and make it for the next one!
