Tea meme

A perfect meme for a Saturday morning, and especially because I don’t drink coffee. This one, courtesy of Personal Political.

Your first cup, when do you drink it? First thing in the morning (i.e. between 5 and 6am).

How many cups a day do you drink? Lately I haven’t been drinking as much tea as usual – two cups, both in the morning before I leave for work. I’m not sure why I haven’t been managing any during the day. I blame it on the noisy kitchen at work (where the coffee machine takes up 80% of the counter space). Or maybe something to do with the muggy weather we’ve been having recently – I’ve been drinking lots of water instead. Usually it’s around five or six cups a day.

Teabag or leaf? Teabag when it’s black tea, but I don’t know why I don’t do leaf more often because I always enjoy the flavour far more that way. Always leaf when it’s green or Chinese tea.

Milk or sugar? Just a drop of milk. I’ve never liked sugar in my tea.

Your favourite way of brewing? Until it’s strong 😉

With whom do you prefer to enjoy your tea? Most people around these parts seem to be coffee drinkers and I often feel like the odd one out around all the short blacks, cappuccinos and flat whites.

Your favourite tea? Orange Pekoe. Or Tie Guan Yin. And it occurs to me that I haven’t had any in ages. Oh, and lately I’ve been enjoying something that might be anathema to tea connoisseurs – tea in a can: Pokka Japanese Green Tea. It’s sugarless and really refreshing icy cold.

Where do you prefer to drink your tea? I’m not fussy!

What does your favourite cup look like? Battered. It’s a mug given to me by my mother-in-law before she was my mother-in-law. The handle’s going to fall off one of these days, and the inside of the mug is all scratched. I’ve had it for more than ten years.

English Breakfast or Earl Grey? I went through a period where all I drank was Earl Grey, but I seem to have gone off it for the time being.

Favourite occupation while drinking tea? Reading. Books, online, whatever.

Formative tea experience? Err, I’m not really sure how to answer this question. Maybe realising that it was quite possible to drink tea without sugar? Malaysians seem to like their tea uber sweet (often using sweetened condensed milk), which I find unpleasant to drink. It was a revelation when I realised, as a teenager, that I could ask for no sugar.

Time for another cuppa!

I’m definitely a tea addict, although I also drink the occasional coffee.

I drink green tea because I can’t trust people to not half-fill black tea with milk. Ugh.

I have a Japanese cup for my tea which is lovely but as it is handle-less a bit tricky to carry from the tea room back to my desk.

I’ve never liked the taste (or should that be after-taste) of coffee. And yeh I’m with you on too-milky tea. I don’t want to drink tea-flavoured milk!

Excellent, another tea fanatic! And the inside of your mug looks suspiciously like the inside of my work mug. I tend to make leaf tea at home, I just enjoy the whole ritual. I also like my tea strong and sturdy with just a bit of milk. And using teapots allows for a teacosy collection!

I like tea tho’ I tend more towards coffee in the morning. Tea I like for morning tea and during the day; sometimes it depends on what I’m eating too because some cuisines match tea better e.g. spicy food.

I think my favourite ATM is Royal Earl Grey from Keri Keri Teas. If you ever get to NZ you should try some of their teas. Tea Total teas are great too.

Sheena, when are you next coming to Perth? (and when are you going to start blogging? 😉 ) I’d love to get together for a cuppa! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by, Penny! I might have to go to the local tea shop and see if they stock any Keri Keri Teas…

Dear CW, unfortunately, I don’t anticipate coming to Perth for a while (though I really liked it when I was there). Let me know if you come to Brisbane, though, I’d enjoy catching you for a cuppa too!Our back deck is perfect for drinking tea on, and my cat Fudge would love to meet you…
