It’s just as well I don’t have writer’s block when it comes to blogging, otherwise I’d still be trying to write posts for January now, or something.
At the moment I’m trying to tidy up and finish two abstracts that have to be submitted by tomorrow. So far, to procrastinate, I have:
- eaten breakfast and brunch
- drunk three cups of tea
- expanded my mighty galactic empire (did I mention that Galactic Civilizations II is a good game?)
- finished a book (Wolf to the Slaughter by Ruth Rendell).
- started another book (Rainbow’s End by Vernor Vinge).
- flicked through a couple of other books I am reading: Walt Crawford’s Balanced Libraries (more on this later), and T. Colin Campbell and Thomas M. Campbell’s The China Study.
- pondered what I would write for a couple of memes: this one, and thanks for the tag, Woody. (I think I need to finish at least one abstract before I do anything else!)
I’ve decided that I don’t like writing for more formal media, but I’m sure it’s good for me.

Dear Ruminations,
I hope you don’t mind my writing to you – partiuclarly as I’m using your comments link to contact you. I’m working for a BBC radio programme and I’m looking for fans of “Ake: The Years of Childhood” by Wole Soyinka. A web search brought me to a comment on your blog.
We’re soon recording a programme with Wole Soyinka, in which a studio audience and booklovers around the world will be able to ask the author questions about his book. I wondered if there’s anything you could ask Wole Soyinka about “Ake: The Years of Childhood”? If so, please email me your question to me: gary.stevens@bbc.co.uk, and our presenter will put the question to him on your behalf.
The interview with Wole Soyinka is in a BBC World Service series called: “World Book Club”. You can find information about the programme on our website: http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/programmes/world_book_club.shtml
Thanks very much indeed. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
gary

Dear Gary
Thanks for stopping by and for this great invitation! I’m going to have to read Ake properly (have only dipped into it) so I can ask an intelligent question!!
