What weekends are for.
We’ve been playing games with Paco, drinking tea, and generally relaxing.
Been wondering if Paco’s grown over the last few months. I think these photos prove it!
I have to report that Rob was right. Last weekend Paco discovered his voice. We have a new neighbour over the back fence who has a large brown Staffy. Paco and I both heard this dog last Saturday morning when we went outside for his morning constitutional, and Paco started barking madly at this unseen (because of the fence) dog. I guess he was offended that this new dog should come along and take over the hitherto canine-free territory over the fence. Souchin (that’s the new dog’s name) barked too, but not as much as Paco.
Paco hasn’t turned into a mad yapper, but he now occasionally joins in when he hears the neighbourhood dogs barking. He still doesn’t bark when people come over – he’s more keen to see who it is so he can say hi and play. And of course he still barks whenever he hears Souchin. Paco’s bark is surprisingly deep for such a little dog.

Nice to see your face again π And Paco of course.
Thanks Penny π
It will be interesting to hear how this turns out. We have two staffies and live next door to a poodle. Our dogs never bark at the poodle, as they’ve figured out who he is and that he’s of no interest to them. But the poodle yaps at them (and at our cats) whenever he hears the slightest noise (like jangling collars.)I suspect that might be how it goes with you, that Paco will bark at the staffy but the staffy won’t have any interest in Paco. (I hope so, for your sake anyway).
Hello Suze, well actually Paco doesn’t bark at the other Staffy (the one who killed Baubles π ) on our left. But then that Staffy was there first…
Oh, and the Staffy Souchin doesn’t bark at Paco much. Or at least he doesn’t start it. Paco will hear Souchin and go berko, and Souchin will then feel he needs to respond. But yes, the Staffy probably wouldn’t bark at Paco at all. And the one on the left sometimes barks at Paco, if Paco is being noisy in the yard (e.g. he runs into the fence while chasing a ball). But he’s pretty quiet, too.
