Finds

Dutch Word of the Day. Excellent for learning vocabulary. I love the examples. See, for example drop (which I am looking forward to sampling), wolkenkrabber (are there many in the Netherlands?), and oranjekoorts (I wonder if we will see any examples when we’re there…).

Fred Vargas. I cannot explain why I have not encountered this author’s work until now. From the name, I thought she was a he. I think I may have had an (until now) unconscious prejudice against the name Fred. Just read Have Mercy on Us All. I wonder if I can find and read all her novels before we head off?

MB came to work today sporting a large orange rosette! Apparently the Dutch team are going to win the soccer tonight!

Perhaps a bit more challenging is http://www.depers.nl/vandale/ to learn about the oddities of Dutch words. But it’s all in Dutch.

Of course we won!

Saturday will be interesting with a match against Hiddink’s Russia.

Ahh, pity about the loss…

Wouter, thanks for that link. Definitely a more challenging site but very interesting, and should be useful the more I learn.
