Amsterdam

We are now in Amsterdam after a looong day on the train yesterday. Our hotel is luxurious, with a soft, super comfy king sized bed – and a large bath.

I had hagelslag (chocolate sprinkles) on a sesame bagel for breakfast, and took great pleasure in buying stamps at the post office, conducting the entire transaction in Dutch.

It’s rather cloudy here today, and not particularly warm. There doesn’t seem to be a single Internet cafe in Amsterdam – we are using the hotel lobby freebies. I’m getting hungry, might be time for some frites met mayonnaise

Lovely to hear what a great time you’re having, CW, and nice to hear that your fears of French have dissipated themselves!

Penny, chips with mayo are delicious!

Genevieve, yes I am very very pleased. People understood me even though I know my accent was horrendous. This gives me the confidence to try and learn the language properly. Next time I am in France I hope I will be able to order my meals and make basic conversation…

Try the libraries. The new municipal library next to the station should have free WiFi. The brand new library is worth a visit anyway. Otherwise university libraries will offer free Internet access

My kids still have hagelslag on their sandwiches. I buy them from a deli at Eastland shopping centre in outer Melbourne.
