Holidays end

I’ve just had a whole month off, and a blissful month it’s been, too, despite heatwaves and too many annoying flying insects. I can’t remember the last time I’ve had such a long holiday – highly recommended!

I didn’t plan much at all for this holiday. What I did:

  1. Had a few health checks done, including pap smear, cholesterol, glucose. Verdict: good.
  2. Cleaned the range hood. The grease! The horror! (I struggled with it until M wisely googled the task. Tip: put the filters in the dishwasher.)
  3. Got the oven fixed, and cleaned (ugh).
  4. Writing/journaling.
  5. Read (of course – 21 books so far this year).

I decided against going offline these holidays, given that so much of my entertainment (audio, video, text) is via the web. However I did severely limit my email access, and that worked well. I find that if I let myself check my work email while on holidays I can end up spending all day replying and following up on things – and there goes the holiday.

Another thing I didn’t do much this holiday – I didn’t nap much. I’m a morning person and the mid-afternoon is often the time of day where my energy flags, so getting accustomed to a nap – and then not having it – would be too much like torture.

The chihuahuas were great company, but I suspect they’ll be unhappy tomorrow morning when they realise I’m getting ready to go to work.
