So I now have a new eeePC. Ended up getting the 1000h model. Thought about what I want to use the eeep for – while I’m out and about, mostly: Twitter, email, brief surfing, note taking. The keyboard is quite important for that sort of thing, and my only complaint about my old eeePC was that the keyboard was just that teensy bit too small for comfort. Also, I do like the fact that the monitor is bigger on this model.
So far, so good. I really need to get a cordless laptop mouse for it, though. The touchpad and the two left-right buttons are a tad sticky and need a fair bit of pressure before they respond. My fingers are getting a good workout with it.
This model comes with Windows XP. After the trip, when I have a bit more time, I might see about putting some flavour of Linux on it.
Might also see if it’s worth getting the old eeePC fixed. Not sure what happened to it. Perhaps it pined while we were in Europe – it was fine when we left, and stone cold dead when we got back.
Bonus: take a look at Kathryn’s post on her eeePC plus Multi-Touch.

mmmm new toys 😉
Glad I waited the new one looks much better. Had a look at a Panasonic “tough book” at the mining expo today, its bigger then the eeepc and ‘tougher’. It has a touchscreen that can swivel 180 degrees that can function as a tablet flipped over on the top of the notebook. The new little ‘Rugged’ was quite compact. They are betweem $6000 to $9000 however so only mining companies can afford them…still, had a play.
