This black pug followed M home when he went to pick up our Friday night pizza dinner. He has no collar so we don’t know where he belongs.
We weren’t sure how the dogs would react to a stranger turning up on their doorstep but it’s been pretty aggro-free so far.
Paco has told the stranger to mind his manners once, by snarling at him, and the pug complied immediately.
Peppi on the other hand doesn’t like or trust the pug at all.
I’m not sure what Peppi finds most unnerving: the pug’s flat face, the fact that he is a walking barrel, or the strange groany snuffly noises he makes.
The dog house is now on the front verandah, with two blankets. Hopefully the pug will sleep okay tonight. We fed him when he got here and he ate quite happily (and wants more).
We went for a walk after dinner in case the pug’s owners were looking for him, but we didn’t spot anyone. Hopefully we’ll find them tomorrow. We’ll have to see if he has a microchip.

He’s way fat – but my god – so cute!
Yeah, I know, I should be the last person to call something fat but it’s not good for him. (It has often been said if I spent as much time concentrating on my own diet and exercise and less on my dog’s I would probably be a lot more healthy.)
Peppi looks like such a daddy’s girl snuggled up to M like that – the pug looks like he’s trying to say “Wha? I didn’t do nothing!”
He’s obviously heard that it’s Furry Friday. Just wait – there will be three labradors and a poodle at your doorstep next Friday wanting their 15 minutes of Internet stardom š
The third photo of M, Peppi and the pug is the cutest thing I’ve seen all week!!!
Our cat joined our household by simply turning up and refusing to leave. She had no collar, but did have a sterilisation tattoo. There was no microchip tattoo, but we later found out that she had been microchipped (maybe they decided one tattoo was enough?). If you’re wary of taking the pug to the council, you could try your vet – they have scanners.
I imagine if he’s that fat he has some doting owner somewhere. Hope they turn up soon!
Lutie, he was very fat. He was still happy enough to run around when Paco tried to play, but his breathing got pretty laboured. And of course when he slept he snored… Peppi did not like him at all. She kept hiding under furniture or behind/on top of humans every time he went near her. He was very friendly and placid and didn’t even mind when Paco told him off repeatedly.
Kathryn I don’t know if I could cope with three Labradors so I hope you’re wrong š
Sally, you’re right about the vet of course. If this ever happens again I will call them first rather than the council.
Penny when his owner came I was almost tempted to comment on the pug’s fatness, but decided it was the wrong time to do so…
