Not sure what’s happened to my blogging mojo, but never mind. I have been writing – just not here. Twitter and my pen and paper notebook are good outlets.
One good thing: It seems that spring is finally here! The sun’s out a lot earlier, it’s warmer and there are so many plants in bloom.
One bad thing: All the pollen in the air seems to be playing havoc with my asthma. I was only diagnosed with asthma this year, after over a year of enduring a cough that never quite goes away. Hurrah for asthma meds, I say!
One thing I learned: At the ALIA Access conference earlier this month, I attended a useful workshop facilitated by Dr Neil Carrington. He talked about the mental models and assumptions that block us from trying new things. I’m still thinking about this: he suggested that instead of saying “I’m too busy to do ___” or “I don’t have the time to do ____”, say “It’s just not that important to me right now”. Don’t use this as a cop out, use this to stop and think, “Is it really not that important to me right now, or do I need to focus on it, and make the time to?” When what you don’t have the time to do involves your own learning, does this mean your own learning as a professional is such a low priority?
Using this to jog my thinking about any issues – particularly things I have a block or reluctance about – has been most interesting.
I took this picture on my walk home the other day, using my iPhone.

interesting train of thought (ALIA snippet)…
some of mine reluctance is fear of stuffing up or not knowing where to start
