I’ve been on holidays for just over a week, and it’s been bliss.
After the mad rush of Christmas and a somewhat major kerfuffle at work just two days before the holidays, it’s been a relief to relax and unwind. There’s been lots to be grateful for:
1. Downtime. I haven’t done much at all, beyond lying around reading and occasionally going out for a meal somewhere with M.
2. The iPad. At the start of the holidays I thought I would give myself a break from the Net, but then I realised this would mean cutting myself off from a lot of entertainment and many friends – and so I didn’t quite switch off. With the iPad I didn’t even have to sit up! Oh, and I’m pleased to report I’ve successfully resisted looking at work email.
3. Despite it being a quietish time, it’s been quite momentous: my sister-in-law had a baby, the day after Boxing Day! I now have a new nephew.
4. Cooling appliances. It’s been rather hot this past week. Picture, taken just this morning, shows the chihuahuas napping in my study, which is one of the coolest rooms in the house, even without air conditioning.
5. A comfortable home. I love our house and love being at home.
I don’t go back to work until 10 January. I might see about doing one or two things this week, but apart from that the plan is to continue the relaxation regimen. I haven’t made any resolutions as such, but am still still reflecting on what I’d like to do this year (so maybe more on this later).
