Rest

I’ve been having a day of enforced rest today, lying in bed with a sore back. Writing this using the WordPress app on my iPad mini. Two chihuahuas keeping me company.

Not sure what I’ve done to my back – a pulled muscle? The pain is in my lower back and it hurts to move or bend, and it radiates out. I was all set to take a NSAID but read the box and decided I wouldn’t risk it as I am allergic to aspirin and asthmatic, and the instructions said NOT to take the meds if you have those conditions. What would happen if i did, i wonder? If I take aspirin I break out with urticaria (a painful rash, welts all over, swollen hands and face, itchy), and an asthma attack makes me cough very painfully and at its worst I feel like I can’t breathe. So I had visions of being swollen, unable to stop coughing, in pain, and maybe still with a painful back, if I took the NSAID. I’ve taken paracetamol instead; it has only vaguely dulled the pain, but I’d rather avoid an allergic reaction.

Even without being sick or in pain I usually take time out on the weekend. Most weeks I could easily just keep working but that wouldn’t really help, as I find the work just expands to fill all the time you give it. The result would be me being exhausted and burnt out, and I don’t know whether the quality of my work would be any good anyway.

To rest and relax I like doing simple things: a walk with the chihuahuas and M, reading, listening to music. Usually, solitary things are best for helping me recharge.

Hopefully today’s rest will help. I have family events on tomorrow!

I didn’t start out the day planning to rest, but I didn’t really do much so it ended up that way anyway. Hope your back heals quickly.

Do you have a wheaty heaty? Is good for back pain. Also Emugel. Hope you feel better soon. Most literature suggests too much bed rest doesn’t improve back pain, so if you can, try and do some gentle movements. *says bossy Penny who used to work for chiropractors*

Hello! I’m sorry you’re not well. I suggest you make a chiropractor appointment for your back. I’ve been going to my chiro since I was 14, mostly for my neck, but monthly adjustments are always healthy. Chiropractic care treats the problem and fixes it instead of masking the pain with medication. I hope you feel better soon!
