No more FOMO

I was just reading Paul’s digital detoxing post.

I like Paul’s approach. I’m not as disciplined as he is about staying offline on the weekends, but the one thing I have done is turn off most notifications – even my email. I just check regularly – and most weekends, I don’t check my email at all.

I used to suffer from severe FOMO but over the years, I have lost this, thankfully. I completely agree with Paul’s statement that “if there’s anything really important you’ll end up hearing about it”. Besides, the news tends to be so depressing these days, I don’t mind waiting for as long as possible before I hear about whatever it is.

I liked Paul’s post too. I haven’t watched tv news or bought a paper for 3 years now.

I follow links from friends of interesting events from FB or Twitter and get news that way, including newspapers such as The Guardian or Huffington Post news articles; as well as from community sites, political parties factsheets, CSIRO website

I do subscribe to The Guardian because I really agree with quality free news, articles not hidden behind a paywall.

TV news? What’s that? Because our telly is not connected to the arial we haven’t watched it for aeons… I don’t seem to be any the worse for wear for not watching it, and am possibly healthier 😉

I seem to get a lot of my news from Twitter these days, plus sites like the ABC. I also read the NYT and Guardian… So I might say I don’t try to keep up with the news but I do. Just not maniacally like I used to.
