Weekend

I wasn’t expecting to listen to the radio for so much of these past two days – and to enjoy it as much as I did. As mentioned on Friday, it was the ABC Classic FM station’s annual Classic 100 show, and this year the theme was something both M and I could get into – music for the screen. (This was unlike the Classic 100 of 2019 when the theme was composers and the only one in the household who cared and was upset that Beethoven took the number one spot, ahead of my favourite, Johann Sebastian Bach.)

It was surprisingly enjoyable to be listening to the radio and sharing the experience with a few friends across the country, by discussing the countdown over Twitter. Kind of harking back to the old days where you all watched the same episode of Seinfeld or Dallas (“who shot JR??”) or whatever and then spent the following week talking about it until the next episode was broadcast. The medium has changed a lot but the enjoyment of connecting over a shared experience hasn’t.

I’m still disappointed that the Civilization VI theme did not make an appearance…
