Yesterday

I had lots of good intentions yesterday. I was going to finish the post I’ve been writing about blogs for the other blog, tidy my desk, do some reading (work-related and escapist), cook something, call a few people to say hi, and maybe even get in a game of Civ 4 somewhere.

The day did not start as I planned, though, because for the first time since I started the experiment, I slept through the alarm – an ancient clock radio which is set on Radio National – and didn’t hear it until about 20 minutes later. And then when I did wake up I felt so tired that I couldn’t rouse any enthusiasm for getting out of bed at all. So I let myself keep sleeping, and didn’t wake up again until 8am! That’s the latest I’ve slept since… May, I think. I obviously needed the extra sleep.

The rest of the day went well, but M and I really tired ourselves out when we went to my brother’s renovator’s dream in Mt Hawthorn to help him and his wife with pulling the plaster off the walls in their kitchen and laundry. We spent a few hours there smacking walls to disintegrate plaster. It’s an exhausting task, and all the rubble falling into your clothes as the plaster crumbles off the walls is the most disconcerting feeling. The crowbar and the hammer and chisel I was using gave me blisters on both hands, although mine are not as bad as the Uber Blister on M’s palm.

When we got home we watched a couple of episodes of Red Dwarf (thanks to S for the complete first season) while having a nice cold beer and lying on the sofa bed.

I think we both passed out on the sofa bed, because the next thing I know it’s 5am and it’s Sunday!

Is that your palm, or M’s palm? Either way it’s a pretty bad looking blister! But did it feel good to be knocking something down knowing that something better would be in it’s place?

Anna, it’s M’s palm. Doesn’t it look horrific?

The work was very cathartic – I really enjoyed taking the crowbar and hitting the walls. It should be really really good when they can move in to the house. Estimated time of work completion and house warming is around Easter 2006.
