Five books meme #blogjune

Was there a meme posted today?

No matter, I’ll write to this one.

1. The book I’m currently reading:

Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons. One of those classics I’ve heard so much about, but never read. Just started, but enjoying it so far.

2. The last book I finished:

One of the Hamish MacBeth books, I forget which, while I was sick. They’re all very similar, but comforting in their predictability (Hamish saves the day, again), and I love reading about the Scottish highlands. The weather is either freezing with snow storms, or boiling hot, with midge plagues.

3. The next book I want to read:

What don’t I want to read?

Patrick Leigh Fermor’s A Time of Gifts – On Foot to Constantinople: From the Hook of Holland to the Middle Danube. Have this sitting on the shelf, long neglected.

4. The last book I bought:

Dante’s Inferno. An impulse buy for $9.95. I was sucked in by the bilingual Italian/English text. As to whether I will actually read it…

5. The last book I was given:

I don’t recall the last time I was given a book. Cheating, but the last book I was lent is Colm Toibin’s short story collection, The Empty Family. I’ve dipped into it on and off, and it’s still sitting on my bedside table. Must return it soon.

Feel free to share your five books.
