An ad I can envisage myself putting up:

Busy professional seeks Mandarin-English language exchange

Me: I am a native speaker of Malaysian English with native or near native proficiency in Australian English. I have been learning Mandarin for around 23 years and currently have little opportunity to speak the language. I would like to improve my Mandarin conversation skills as well as improve my level of understanding of contemporary Chinese culture.

What I can offer: excellent English language conversation skills and a highly developed proficiency in Australian culture. Besides university qualifications in politics and Chinese language, library science and applied linguistics, I am also interested in literature, current affairs, world history and Western classical music.

You are: a native speaker of Mandarin, preferably from mainland China. (This is mainly because I have been to the People’s Republic and would love to talk and learn about the country. I would not be averse to learning more about Taiwan.) You could be a Masters or PhD student wanting to improve your English language conversational skills and understanding of Australian culture.

We would meet for a couple of hours in a park or cafe every weekend, preferably in the Northbridge area of Perth, Western Australia.

希望你能够帮助我提高我的文化水平!

Hmm. This post is, in effect, putting it out there 🙂
