Friday morning

I’m not going in to work until a little later this morning, so I have been spending the morning reading and taking my time with breakfast. This post is being written on the Tablet PC (Compaq tc1100 for those who care about these things – I just realised I’ve not mentioned this), using the keyboard and the Opera browser.

Below: The Tablet on my desk.
What you see behind it is the docking device, with cd-rom drive.Yes, my desk is messy.

Thoughts on the Tablet:

  • I like using it. I might have to start using the pen and practice writing on it though… I definitely type faster than I write, and I don’t know what its handwriting recognition capabilities are like yet…
  • I wish it was lighter (gets heavy when you’re traipsing around campus from library to office)
  • Battery life is too short – 3 hours?! (I know, that’s pretty standard for many laptops. Still…)
  • Still need to get wireless enabled on it so I can check my email while having tea in the faculty cafe. Just for the sake of it, of course.

Downloaded and installed the Opera browser on the Tablet yesterday when I started getting very annoyed with Internet Explorer (I realised I love browsing using tabs rather than opening gazillions of new windows everywhere). They were giving away free registration code to upgrade Opera yesterday, and who doesn’t like freebies? Too early to say what I think of Opera yet, although some of its features look quite nifty at this stage (it looks like it has even more customisation options than Firefox). The bloody WYSIWYG editor for Blogger has gone and disappeared again, though.

The PC I usually work on at home. (Mouse next to mug belongs to the Tablet)

Edit 8:15am: Had to edit this post several times to get the photos and captions right.
