TED

M (thanks M!) sent me the link to this presentation from Blaise Aguera y Arcas at the recent TED conference. Blaise demos something he’s working on called Photosynth that “creates breathtaking multidimensional spaces with zoom and navigation features” (from the TED page). Description doesn’t do it justice, take a look at it to see what it does.

After looking at that I watched the talk given by Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, former finance minister of Nigeria, entitled “How to help Africa? Do business there“. Very interesting talk, even if I don’t agree that building shopping malls would necessarily be a good thing for African countries. Ethan Zuckerman was there and blogged her talk – and many others.

I don’t have time this morning but I’m going to have to watch Joshua Prince-Ramus’s talk from last year’s TED, on designing the Seattle Central Library, and all the other very interesting talks on their site. TED looks like an amazing conference. It’s wonderful that they have made all these talks available online.

When you have time also have a look at one of my favorite TED talks:
http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/92 Hans Rosling showcasing amazing statistics visualization techniques and debunking third world stereotypes along the way

Oh, and watch the Tony Robbin’s talk from last year’s TED conference. It was very inspiring.
