Singalong

Singing can be very therapeutic. Have just been screeching along to a few of Abba’s greatest hits.

I think my favourite singalongs would have to be, in no particular order:

  • The Smiths. Also super good when feeling nostalgic – ah, my teenage years!
  •  Abba. Of course. Especially Mamma Mia, Super Trooper, and Fernando.
  • Wham! “Last Christmas/ I gave you my heart/but the very next day/you gave it away” – Oh the humanity!
  • My ancient Chinese revolutionary songs tape, karaoke style. I kid you not. I know the lyrics to Dong Fang Hong (The East is Red) and a few other Cultural Revolution “hits”. Mainland Chinese friends generally don’t get why I like this genre of music; I guess it doesn’t have any unpleasant connotations for me, as it does for them. To me, it’s kitsch and catchy.

I bet M is glad he has headphones and can tune me out.

A little while ago, I was playing a gig shortly after being dumped under somewhat harsh circumstances. Halfway through my set, I got sick of my own stuff, and regressed into series of Smiths covers, Robbie Hart-style… it felt a lot more fitting.

Heaven knows I’m miserable now = modern classic.

Abba is a definite.
But then I sing to anything that has words that I know… sad but true.

Yes, if the mood strikes me I am happy to sing along to almost anything I know. 80s tunes are another favourite (showing my age here!).

I love 80’s tunes. I have about 10 cd’s worth of 80’s songs on my mp3 player. Between those and 8 years of Eurovision there isn’t much else on there at the moment.

Eurovision, Rachel? Love it! 😀
