I’ve been on holidays this part fortnight, and it’s been blissful.

It’s been one of those stay-at-home holidays, and I really think this is my favourite sort of holiday. M’s been on holidays too, which has definitely added to the enjoyment.

What have we been doing? Well:

Rare shot
Sleeping in. As much as is possible with a naughty chihuahua in the household. Enjoying the morning sunshine that streams in through the windows just after 7am at the moment. (Ordinarily I would be out of bed, getting ready, or well on my way to work.)

Gaming. I’ve played a bit of Civilization V with the expansion Gods and Kings, and have been exploring the new GuildWars 2. I haven’t played an MMO since WoW, and I must say, GuildWars 2 has been quite enjoyable. Not least because they don’t tolerate racist, sexist/misogynist or homophobic comments in-game (people can get their accounts suspended or banned for such behaviour).

Portrait with dogsShopping. We’ve bought a few pieces of furniture for the house. Armchairs, a bench, a new bed for the guest room, a couple of tables. The chihuahuas approve of one of the armchairs.

Hanging out with the chihuahuas. This would have seemed strange to me prior to becoming a Dog Person, but these days I actually look forward to spending time with my dogs. It’s been very nice to take them out for walks, and to laze around and play with them. They are wonderful company.

Reading. (Of course.) I haven’t spent as much time reading as I thought I would, as a lot of time has been spent on excursions (shopping, dining out, trips to the dog park, etc). 99% of my reading these holidays has been strictly of the fun/enjoyment/escapist variety. The other 1% has been idle scanning of articles via Twitter.

The reading I have completely NOT done: I have stayed well away from my work email (and only occasionally looked at my personal email). It’s been great – on other holidays I have checked my email regularly, which rather defeats the purpose of being on holidays, I think. I wholeheartedly recommend this! The first couple of days or so I found myself wondering what was happening at work and feeling guilty, like I ought to be checking my email, but I forced myself to stay away. Eventually I got over the guilt and forgot all about it. I’ll get to the email when I get back to work on Monday.

Ah, holidays!

I didn’t play MOO at all, but I’m told it’s a reasonably good clone.
